We'll start with some 'specs' that you may need to know more regularly, and then I'll show you how to find out some very detailed information to do with your computer and it's hardware. How big is your hard drive? To find out click Start -> My Computer -> then single click any of the hard drives listed under the heading Hard Drives -> look over to the left of the page and you should see, under the heading Details, the size of the hard drive and how much free space you have. If you'd like this set out in a pretty pie chart just right click the hard drive icon -> then click Properties -> when you're done click OK What version of Windows are you using? To find out click Start -> right click My Computer -> click Properties -> on the General Tab, under the heading System, is your version of Windows along with which Service Pack you have running -> when you're done Click OK How fast is your processor? To find out click Start -> right click My Computer -> click Properties -> on the General Tab, under the heading Computer, are the details of your processor for instance Pentium(R) 4 3.20GHz it's the 3.20GHz that tells you your processors speed -> when you're done Click OK How much RAM (virtual memory) have you got? To find out click Start -> right click My Computer -> click Properties -> on the General Tab, under the heading Computer, are the details of your RAM for instance 0.99 RAM -> when you're done Click OK What's your IP address? To find out click Start -> click Run -> type CMD -> click OK -> a command dialogue box (black box) should appear -> type ipconfig -> hit enter on your keyboard -> when you're done type exit -> then hit enter on your keyboard. Something a little more advanced? To find detailed information about your system and all of its hardware click Start -> click Run -> type msinfo32 -> click OK -> from here you can explore your system by clicking on the + signs and headings -> when you're done click the X in the top right hand corner to exit. |
